A small working group representing the Technical Services Planning Committee,
the Public Services Planning Committee, and the FCLA liaisons will be
formed to develop realistic strategies, specifications, and/or for library
staff workstations that can meet the following objectives:
A. Accommodate current technologies.
B. Accommodate future hardware and software migrations.
C. Integrate new workstation technology with existing workstations
in cases where these can only be replaced in phases.
D. Accommodate current and planned accesses and services to support
various operational functions, i.e., acquisitions, selection, binding,
cataloging, circulation, interlibrary loan, reference.
E. Increase productivity and promote efficiency in executing duties
and satisfying position requirements.
F. Promote knowledge, skills, abilities in the use and maintenance
of the workstations.
G. Promote staff and end-user training.
H. Promote increased services and offerings for all types of print,
digital, and other multi-media resources available through networked
workstations.
I. Recommend timetable for continual staff hardware upgrades/replacement,
balancing probable life-expectancy of the hardware and reasonable funding
cycles.
